Learning to Say Yes (May 20, 2019)

“I’m really thinking about activities and relationships that I really enjoy and saying yes to the things that feed my soul and make me happy inside. “

Agreeing to do things has never really been something that I struggled with throughout my life. Need help? Sure! Want something done or fixed? Absolutely! Fun plans? Oh, yes! Chance to make a little extra money doing something creative? Why not.

Then “BOOM”!  Just like that, I would have “yes”-ed myself into too many things to do at the same time and a one way ticket to Stress City. Then I’d feel overwhelmed and not want to do anything! I’d do it all anyway but would feel a lot of negativity sometimes and a lot less enjoyment than I would have wanted to experience.

Over the course of the last few months, I have developed a far more healthy relationship with the word yes. I find myself taking time to think more before agreeing to do things. I’m really thinking about activities and relationships that I really enjoy and saying yes to the things that feed my soul and make me happy inside.

There are many books and articles on the power of saying no, and that is true to a point, but I have come to realize that there is far more empowerment in wisely choosing the things to which you say Yes. It’s a work in progress but I’m finally saying yes to one of the most important people in my life- ME! Can’t wait to see how that turns out.
