Being a Tourist At Home

I recently had an unexpectedly free afternoon. It was a beautiful sunny day, and the appointment I had booked was rescheduled so I had no where to be! Oh, the possibilities!!

I started driving home, and took the back way since I had time and decided to play tourist where I live! First, I went for a hike at Mi’kmawey Hiking Trail in Debert. We’ve hiked a lot of places, but this trail, just minutes from our home, is my favourite!

After the hike, I stopped at the Debert Military Museum for the first time. I was fortunate to have a fabulous guide on this adventure; a young man who is an army cadet and who is very knowledgeable about the museum, local history and various aircraft. He made this first visit so great and I learned so much about this area!

By the time I was done exploring in Debert, I was getting hungry so I took a lovely, meandering drive around the back way and ended up at Double C Truck Stop. I enjoyed an awesome (and really affordable) lunch of fried clams and French fries. It was so nice to have some time to explore and experience a few local things that I hadn’t taken the time to enjoy before. It really is true that sometimes, the best things are right in front of you.
